History of our name

Our name, Aerides Villas, has come up from four Ancient Greek Gods, whose name
was Anemous (Winds). The four winds – children of Aeolus and Eos -had the names:
Boreas, Zephyrus, Eurus and Notus. Each one of them has their own unique
features.

Boreas (Aquilo in Latin) was the god of the north wind's spirit - and the bringer of the cold winter air. He was frequently shown as a winged old man with shaggy hair and beard, holding a conch shell with which he was calling the winds. The Romans used to call him Boreas Aquilo or the "north-east winter wind".

Zephyrus, also known as Zephyr (in Latin Favonius), is the Greek god of the west wind - the gentlest of the winds. Zephyrus was the messenger of the life-bringing spring winds, and he was also the god of plants and flowers. There are many stories surrounding Zephyrus, like for example that he was married to the rainbow goddess - named Iris.

Eurus is the god of the east or the south-east wind. He was responsible for the warmer days. He was also referred to as the bringer of unlucky east wind. The great Roman naturalist Pliny the elder, referred to Eurus as Vulturnus.

Notus was the god of the south wind. He was associated with the desiccating hot wind after midsummer, he was thought as a storm bringer at late summer and autumn and he was also feared as a destroyer of crops. The Romans called him Auster - the god of the south winds. Auster used to bring cloudy days and strong rains.
